Jolene Ann (Johnson) Hartgrave, longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, following a long illness. At Jolene’s request, there will be no services. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
Jolene was born on Oct. 26, 1953, the middle child of Pete and Mary Johnson, who predeceased her. Jo spent her early life in Dayton and Cedar Falls, and moved to the Cedar Rapids area in the early ’70s to attend and graduate from the University of Iowa. She liked the area so much she never left. Jo spent most of her working career in finance and banking, most recently employed by Guaranty Bank before retiring in 2018.
Jo is survived by her son, Jeffrey Hartgrave; and her granddaughter, Carmen Hartgrave of Cedar Rapids. They were the light of her life.
She is also survived by her sister, Deborah, of Massachusetts; and brother, Scott, of Arizona. Not to be forgotten is a small group of women friends who gathered on occasion to raise a glass and enjoy some cheer. She was also the human parent of many beloved dogs during her life.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Megan McDonald and the staff at the Division of Gynecological Oncology at the University of Iowa for their relentless but kind pursuit to find a cure for Jolene.
