Johnston, Margaret M.
Funeral services for Margaret M. Johnston, 91, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Interment will be at Deep River Cemetery in Deep River, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Mrs. Johnston died on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Davenport, Iowa.
Margaret Marie Horak was born in Center Point, Iowa on February 16, 1919, the daughter of William and Mary (Vorak) Horak. In 1984, she married Harold “Jack” Johnston in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1996. Mrs. Johnston was an elementary schoolteacher for the Davenport Community School District. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She is survived by her son, Gary Simanek of Davenport; a brother, Willard (Rosemary) Horak of Center Point, Iowa; and two grandchildren, William “Billy” Simanek of Davenport and Jill Chesson (Kyle Legg) of Ingram, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Hickey; and three brothers, George, Leo, and Alfred Horak.
