Johnston, Jean Elizabeth Burge
Jean Elizabeth Burge Johnston, 91, of Grapevine, Texas, formerly of Lisbon, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, in Green Valley Care and Rehabilitation Center, North Richland, Texas. Jean's funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Federated Church, Lisbon, by the Rev. Clinton Jeffers. Her visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Burial: Lisbon Cemetery.
Surviving Jean are her family: son, Marvin (Kay) Johnston, Sunset, Texas; daughter, Carol (Donald) Woodard, Bloomfield, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Phoebe (Charles) Meyer, Pottsboro, Texas; eight grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Johnston, Jennifer (Wayne) Grogan, Kristina Meyer, Angela (Thomas) Souther of Texas, Kelli Woodard, Corey Woodard, Jared Cavey, Melissa (Brian) Gurley of Colorado; six great-grandchildren, Ethan Johnston, Shaye Souther, Madison Grogan of Texas, Brynn Gurley, Malaya Woodard, Kailani Woodard of Colorado; and Jean's brother, Vernon Burge of Mount Vernon.
Preceding Jean in death were her husband, Dale; son, Richard; and daughter, Cheri Cavey.
Jean was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Mount Vernon, Iowa, to Harold Burge and Marjorie (Brown) Burge. Jean graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1938 and married Dale a year later. She was active at the First Federated Church in Lisbon and was a 4-H leader for 15 years in Cedar County. For over 50 years, Jean and her husband farmed land south of Lisbon. After the passing of her husband, Jean lived in Cedar Rapids at The Meth-Wick Community for 12 years, then the past four years in Texas at a retirement community.
