Johnston, Dorothy Eileen (Ryan)
Dorothy Eileen (Ryan) Johnston, 79, of Marion, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: one hour before mass Monday at the church. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her children, Debra (Kevin) Wright of Marion, Teresa (Randy) Sheppard of Center Point, Robert Parker Johnston Jr., Irving Johnston and Keith Johnston, all of Marion; eight grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Jacob, Mandy, Rachel, Angela, Samantha and Bobby; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Mildred Harper, Agnes Holmes, Vincent Ryan, Veronica Minor and Carney Ryan, all of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Diana Johnston; and siblings, Mary Frances Scanlon and John T. Ryan.
Dorothy was born Nov. 10, 1931, the daughter of John D. and Frances (Carney) Ryan, in Stuart, Iowa. On Sept. 24, 1955, Dorothy married Robert Parker Johnston in Cedar Rapids. They later divorced. Dorothy worked as a switchboard operator at Kirkwood Community College and also for many years at Farmstead. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
A memorial fund has been established in Dorothy's memory.
