Johnson, Nita E.
Nita E. Johnson, 85, of Anamosa, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. A private graveside ceremony will be held at Green Cemetery in Morley, Iowa, at a later date.
Nita Evelyn (Grassfield) Johnson was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Anamosa, Iowa, to David Remus Grassfield and Kizzie Miller Smith. Nita graduated from the Anamosa Schools and worked at the Union Train Depot in Cedar Rapids, Ruby's Cafe in Anamosa, and the Miller Cafe in Springville. She was united in marriage to Warren H. Johnson and they celebrated 59 years together before his death in December 2001.
She had two sons, Warren L. Johnson and Marvin G. Johnson, as well as several foster children whom she and Warren cared for throughout the years and she loved as if they were her own. She belonged to the United Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbor's of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren H. Johnson; and a son, Marvin G. Johnson.
She is survived by a son, Warren Lee (Gloria) Johnson of Anamosa; three grandchildren, Virginia Johnson and husband Noah, Lisa-Ann Johnson and partner Heather, Matthew Johnson and wife, Sarah; and great-grandchild, Riley Owen Johnson; as well as sister-in-law, Atha Jensen.
She will be greatly missed.
