Johnson, Louise K.
Louise K. Johnson, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at her home of natural causes. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiating. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, and after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Carl E. Johnson; and her parents, Frank and Kathryn Kuhnkey.
Survivors include son Mark Johnson and wife Karen of Cedar Rapids; daughter Karla Henderson and husband Dennis of Holstein, Iowa; grandchildren, Todd Henderson and wife Sarah of Cedar Rapids, Kristine Henderson and husband Anthony of Holstein, Iowa, Emily Meyer and husband Patrick of Wheatland, Colo., and Sally Johnson of Denver, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Cameron Spina, Aiden and Ainsley Henderson and Grant Meyer; and brother, Philip Kuhnkey and wife Rosa of Monmouth, Ill.
Louise was born Feb. 1, 1925, to Frank and Kathryn Kuhnkey. She married George B. Blake on April 15, 1945, and was widowed shortly thereafter. Louise married Carl E. Johnson on Aug. 2, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. She was the church secretary at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church for several years and retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation after 25 years with the resident maintenance office.
Her hobbies included quilting and feeding small woodland animals in her backyard. Louise was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Eastern Iowa Quilting Guild.
She loved her family, special friends and her faith. Louise will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In honor of her husband Carl, memorials may be given in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, 1570 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
