Johnson, Kenneth W.
Kenneth W. Johnson, 84, of Gerlaw, Ill., died 10:21 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, Ill. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth, Ill. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park. Friends may call on Monday at the funeral home, where his family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
Surviving family include his wife, Norma; three children, Julie (Ron) Prokop of Solon, Iowa, Randy (Tina) Johnson of Gerlaw, Ill., and Debbie (Rex) Allan of Montrose, Colo.; six grandchildren, Nicki Even, Darcey Pontious, Nicki Kauffman, Halley Johnson, Kristin (Zach) Tharp and David Eichstadt; five great-grandchildren, Braden, Natalie, Taylor, Bryson and Asher; seven Stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Brake of Galesburg, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey Johnson; and grandson, Casey Even.
Kenneth was born Sept. 9, 1925, on the family farm near Gerlaw, Ill., the son of Freddy Clarence and Lillian A. (Issacson) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Gerlaw, where he rode his pony to the Chapman Grade School. He later graduated from Monmouth High School in 1943.
Kenneth married Norma Grace Carlson in Galesburg on Aug. 19, 1948. Kenneth farmed on the Johnson family farm his entire life. He also lived his entire life within one mile of his birthplace. He was a very good welder and enjoyed assisting his neighbors with their repairs. He loved boating, motorcycles, ATVs and spoiling his grandchildren. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Monmouth.
Memorials may be left for the Children's Miracle Network or Guardian Angel Animal Rescue.
