Johnson, Dean F.
IOWA CITY - Dean F. Johnson of 3344 Hanover Ct., Iowa City, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City, with Pastor Brent Hartwig officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial, with military honors, will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
Memorials may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City or to a charity of one's choice.
Dean was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Frank and Hilda (Huus) Johnson. Growing up in Lake View, Iowa, Dean served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. In 1960, he received his B.A. degree from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. He worked in Sioux City at Securities Acceptance Corporation, where he met Karen Tincher. They were married July 30, 1961, in Renwick, Iowa and established their residence in Iowa City.
Dean was the customer service manager for the Iowa City Press Citizen for 33 years, retiring in 1996. Dean was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir and attending Iowa Hawkeye sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; daughter, Julie Dorn (Larry) of Trophy Club, Texas; son, Jeffrey Johnson (Amy) of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Tricia Petrow (Bill) of West Dundee, Ill.; twin brother, Dale Johnson (Ann) of Northwood, Iowa; grandchildren, Megan Dorn, Kelly Dorn, Ava Johnson, Jenna Johnson, William III “Will” Petrow and Thomas Petrow; nieces, Pieper Brunswold (Dave) of Ashland, Wis., and Tanna Moretz (Dean) of Northwood, Iowa; and his beloved dog, Gracie.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
