Johnson, Alton C. 'AC'
Alton C. “AC” Johnson, 92, lifetime resident of the Iowa City area, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City. A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Alton's memory.

Alton Clay Johnson was born Nov. 30, 1918, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Clay and Neva (Zager) Johnson. He married Betty Jean Yeslinek on Nov. 8, 1960, in Kahoka, Mo. For many years, Alton worked for the University of Iowa as a mechanic, specifically with the ambulances. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, fishing, camping, NASCAR, baseball games, but most of all his grandchildren, he so loved being Grandpa!
His family includes his four daughters, Jackie Jones and Janetta Duke (Kevin), all of Mesa, Ariz., Janice Johnson of Iowa City, and Janet Norris (Jeremy) of North Liberty; and nine grandchildren, Troy Jones, Garrett Duke, Justin Duke, Samantha McElmeel, Jack McElmeel, Mason McElmeel, Emma Norris, Jacob Norris and Owen Norris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Jean on Nov. 17, 1979; and a child in infancy.
