Johnson, Alton C. 'AC'
Alton C. “AC” Johnson, 92, lifetime resident of the Iowa City area, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City. He was cremated at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
AC Johnson was born Nov. 30, 1918, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Clay and Neva (Zager) Johnson. He was married to Betty Jean Yeslinek on Nov. 8, 1960, until her death in 1979. He married Karen Marie Graef on July 7, 1986, in Iowa City.
For many years, Alton worked his parents' farm. He worked over 25 years at the Ford Company as a mechanic; he was the first Johnson County mechanic to be trained to work on automatic-transmission cars. He worked for the University of Iowa as a mechanic and was supervisor of the ambulance department.
He enjoyed baseball games, traveling, fishing, NASCAR, and camping.
His family included his wife, Karen Johnson of Billings, Mont.; four daughters, Jackie Jones and Janetta Duke, Mesa, Ariz., Janice Johnson, Iowa City, and Janet Norris, North Liberty; and nine grandchildren.
