John Wolfe, 89, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Prince of Peace parish, Clinton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, and from 10 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.
John was born in Worthington, Iowa, on June 5, 1927, the son of Charles and Laura (Baehler) Wolfe. He graduated from St. Paul High School in Worthington and later from Loras College in Dubuque. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
John married Grace Jaeger on Nov. 19, 1955, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington. Grace passed away on March 11, 2012. He was the office manager for the Clinton Office of CIT Financial until his retirement and was involved with Wolfe Property Management for many years.
John was a member of Prince of Peace parish. His faith and family were of upmost importance to him as he attended Mass daily and prayed the rosary faithfully. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing and bowling. He was a sports enthusiast, whose greatest love was baseball, having played semi-pro ball for the Cascade Reds in his younger days and being a fan of the Chicago White Sox.
John is survived by a daughter, Debra (Dan) Kohrt of Clinton; three sons, Gary Wolfe (Margaret Kuhl) of Clinton, Dennis Wolfe of Cedar Rapids and James Wolfe (Mei Lam) of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren, Christopher (Tia) Kohrt, Erin Kohrt, and Britteny and Brooke Wolfe; three great-grandchildren, Kearra, Chase and Lila Kohrt; a brother, Ronald (Jean) Wolfe of Worthington; a sister, Kay (Don) Link of Epworth; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six sisters, Wilma, Florence, LauraBelle, Eleanor, Angeline and Eileen; and four brothers, Charles, Leon, Urban and William.
