John William Moander, 75, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023, with a remembrance and special toast at 2 p.m., at Keokuk Yacht Club, located at 2029 River Road, Keokuk, IA 52632. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
John was born on Dec. 17, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Leota (Struble) Moander. He was a 1966 graduate of Keokuk High School and went on to attend Southeast Iowa Community College. On July 3, 2005, John was united in marriage to Kathleen Routh in Branson, Mo. For 27 years, he owned and operated Associated Tool Makers in Keokuk. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and the El Kahir Shrine.
John enjoyed nature, watching animals and birds at his feeders, and fishing; he even tied his own flies. He was a big “foodie” and loved to cook. John wintered in Southern Texas. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and spending time with them. Everyone enjoyed listening to him talk and tell stories. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy Routh of Marion; children, Christopher (Jessica) Moander of Albuquerque, N.M., Adam Moander of Perryville, Mo., Aaron (Becky) Moander of Carthage, Ill., Matthew (Mallory) Moander of Keokuk, Rachel (Stephen) Moander of Las Vegas, Nev., Mark Moander of Keokuk, Quincy Routh of Iowa City, Iowa, Abbie (Jim) Otten of Brentwood, Calif., and Nikki (Jason) Brandon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Olivia, Zoey, Memphis, Ainsley, Maddie, and (twins) Emma and Eliza; brother, Al (Nancy) Moander of Florida; and sister, Martha Moander Reuter of Keokuk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Ethan Moander.
