John T. Wiley, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died June 23, 2015, at West Ridge Care Center. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 26, at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Curt Moermond officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will be at 3 p.m. on Friday at Spring Grove Cemetery in Palo.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Donna; his children, Johnnie Wiley and wife Kathryn of Walford, Dennis Wiley of Palo and friend Judy Miller, Lynn Cooper and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids and Patty Bryant of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sisters, Gladys Dyal and husband Palmer of California and Louise Mowrey and husband Steve of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Carol Wiley of Fort Dodge; brother-in-law, Tom Miller and wife Pat of Cedar Rapids; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Elsie, Helen and Grace; two brothers, George and Jim; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Wiley; and son-in-law, Jimmy Bryant.
John Torrence Wiley Jr. was born on Feb. 28, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John Torrence Wiley Sr. and Celia (Armstrong) Wiley. He was united in marriage to Donna R. Miller on Jan. 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. From this union they brought forth their four wonderful children. John farmed in Palo for many years with his wife and family. John will be remembered for farming not just being his work but also his hobby. John and Donna enjoyed many years of dancing together as well as playing cards. John's greatest enjoyments were family gatherings and just generally any time he was able to be with his beloved family.
John was a Mason for over 70 years with membership in Fidelitas Lodge #364 A.F. & A.M., Cedar Rapids Consistory and El Kahir Shrine Temple. John was a Past Master of Fidelitas Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, John's family would request that memorial contributions be directed to the El Kahir Shrine Transportation Fund, PO Box 38, Hiawatha, IA 52233.
