John "Pinky" Wheeler, 83, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of Hiawatha, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at River Bend Senior Living in Rochester.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. April 25 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Private inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.
John was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Waverly, Mo., to John and Lola (Yuille) Wheeler. After graduating from high school, John was united in marriage to Margaret Lynn on Aug. 5, 1955, also in Waverly, Mo. To this union, two children were born.
John worked as a technician for Rockwell Collins for 31 years until his retirement. He was a member of Hope United Church of Christ. John enjoyed woodworking, square dancing and fishing.
He was a devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his son, Gregory Wheeler of Rochester, Minn.; and three grandchildren, Tana Wheeler-Cart, Darren Wheeler-Elm and Jake Elm.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Margaret, in 2015; son, Michael Wheeler; and brother, Thomas Wheeler.
A memorial fund in John's honor has been established.
