John Michael Wagner, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short battle with cancer. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home. Private family burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
John is survived by three children, Jamie (Jackie) Wagner and Michelle (Josh) Daws, both of Cedar Rapids, and Brian Wagner of Alburnett; four grandchildren, Brianna (Brock) Luck, Brandon (Nicole) Wagner, Michael Barton and Mason Daws; one great-grandchild, with one on the way; two sisters, Karen Sokolowski of Colorado and Janis (Ken) Bornong of Waterloo; and many nieces and a nephew.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Roger Sokolowski.
John was born July 24, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ervine and Virginia Wilson Wagner. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1964. John worked as a locomotive engineer with the railroad for 38 years, retiring in 2006.
John loved the retired life and enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye Football, Iowa Hawkeye Women's Basketball, doing crossword puzzles and reading daily comics.
