John W. Stock, 80, died suddenly in his home on Sunday, March 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday March 6, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Harlan Gillespie officiating. The visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Clarence Cemetery, following the luncheon at the church.
John was born to John and Viola Schafer Stock on June 29, 1933, in Clarence. John and Lois McClellan were married Dec. 27, 1953, at the Clarence United Methodist Church and just celebrated 60 years of marriage.
John was a graduate of Clarence High School class of 1951 and a graduate of Coe College with a degree in business administration. He was a broadcasting financial and business manager at Channel 2 and WMT 600 for 38 years. John was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Business Consumers Bureau. He was also a charter member of the Institute of Broadcasting and Financial Management, including the board of directors. John enjoyed traveling. He was a devoted husband to Lois. John's family meant everything to him.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; son, David (Lori) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Julie (Rodney) Kress of Clarence; and grandchildren, Evan and Jason Stock and Logan and Taylor Kress.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
