John H. Smalley, 58, of Belle Plaine, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Angela (Roy) Callahan; eight brothers, Ben (Mary), Mark (Janet), Nelson (Chris), Matt (Dana), Frank (Julie), Steve (Brooke), Adam (Ginny) and Paul (Chris); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was born Feb. 2, 1958, in Richwood, W.Va., the son of Howard and Tressie Smalley. He worked in construction in the Linn County area for several years.
John enjoyed the outdoors -- hunting and fishing -- and watching TV. He was a loyal fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers, and had served in the Army.
John was a wonderful son, brother and uncle, who will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in John's name.
