John Raymond Scuffham, 68, of Mason City, died Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Muse Norris Hospice.
He was born in Eston Yorkshire, England, to Raymond and Peggy Scuffham, on Jan. 19, 1949. John graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and attended Marshalltown Junior College. He coached soccer at Cornell College in Mount Vernon and also refereed collegiate soccer.
He was married to Debra Diane Schultz in Waterloo on June 23, 1972. Together they had two sons, Sean Michael Scuffham and Christopher Paul Scuffham. John worked for Fast Food Merchandising/Hardee's for over 30 years. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Mason City, and served in many positions over the years, most recently as verger. John and Deb enjoyed traveling together, especially visiting John's birthplace and family in England. John enjoyed golf, English football, his church and spending time with his family and many friends.
John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deb; his son, Chris (Jessica) of Clive; grandchildren, Zoë (14), Emersyn (5), Beckett (4) and Tucker (2) Scuffham, all of Clive; a sister, Sally (James) Zook of Center Point; a nephew, Andrew Zook; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews, all of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Sean; and his nephew, Alex Zook.
The visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 1, at St. John's Episcopal Church in the parish hall from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the church. John is being cremated and his ashes will be buried at a later date in Wilton, England, next to his son, Sean; his father, Raymond; and his grandparents.
