John J. Schultz, 88, of Kennewick, Wash., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died April 5, 2014 near Kenne-wick.
John was born March 15, 1926, in Wapello, Iowa, the son of Burt and Helen Schultz. After high school, he served in the Navy during World War II. He married Marcelyn Harmer on June 21, 1950, in Canton, Ill.
John is survived by two sons, Rodger (Patricia) Schultz of North Liberty and Michael (Nancy) Schultz on Kennewick; eight grandchildren, Scott, Matt, Chris, Jeramy, Jennifer, Jessica, Cody and Shinon; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcelyn; and his son, Patrick.
John worked as a switchman for Rock Island Railroad, until his retirement. He was an avid Cedar Rapids Kernels and Iowa Hawkeye fan and never missed an opportunity to attend a game.
Private graveside services for the family will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa, on May 16.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Association of the American Cancer
