John Michael Sarazin, 61, of Center Point, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at his home. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
John was born Feb. 11, 1953, in Dubuque, the son of Roy and Mary (Blume) Sarazin. He graduated from Dubuque Hempstead High School and later from Marshalltown Community College. After graduation, he was employed at Link-Belt Speeder in Cedar Rapids for many years. John was united in marriage to Lesta Leitner on May 3, 1975, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. John then started his own home improvement business in 1985. For the last 29 years, he held a position at Rockwell Collins as a designer until retiring this year.
For the last several years he also was a vendor at Noelridge Farmers Market. He enjoyed gardening, designing and creating projects, hunting, fishing, off-roading and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
John is survived by his wife, Lesta; his sons, Scott (Bethany) Sarazin of Alburnett and Kevin (Angela) Sarazin of Roland; three grandkids, Jacob, Jenna and Makenzey; his siblings, Carol (John) Frommelt, Ann (David) Hanten, Carl (Bertha) Sarazin and Steve (Jennifer) Sarazin, all of Dubuque, Joan (Paul) Marietta of Bettendorf and Lois (Pete) Corona of Marysville, Calif.; as well as many nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Verne Long.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle, Andy; and his aunt, Margaret.
A memorial fund has been established in his name as future scholarships for his grandchildren.
