John A. Romick, 91, of Marion, died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, where a Masonic service will begin at 6 p.m. by Trojan Lodge No. 548 A.F. & A.M. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the funeral home. Graveside services: noon Wednesday, May 18, at Buckingham Cemetery, Traer.
John was born June 8, 1924, the son of Burton and Marguerite (Dalziel) Romick in Traer, Iowa. He graduated from Traer High School and then attended UNI. John married Lorraine Naylor on Sept. 5, 1949, in Waterloo. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for many years as a test technician, retiring in 1985.
John was a member of Marion American Legion Post 298, Trojan Lodge 548 A.F & A.M. and CRATOS. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II from 1942 to 1946.
John was an avid organist and loved the outdoors, especially hiking in the mountains.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of Marion; one brother, Bruce Romick of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Phyllis Zager of Waterloo; multiple in-laws; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara Streittmatter.
