JOHN PACKWOOD Tipton Funeral services for John Charles Packwood, 66, of Tipton, who passed away Jan. 13, 2014, after a courageous year-long battle with leukemia (AML), will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Pastor Ron Lashmit will officiate. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery, Tipton. Memorials may be made to the John Packwood Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be made to www.fryfuneral home.com. John was born May 7, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Charles Weaver and Fern Irene Johnson Packwood. John was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in electrical engineering. On Feb. 14, 1986, John was united in marriage to Patricia Kay Krebs in Fort Dodge. He enjoyed guns, cars, pool, photography and rock n' roll. John was an avid believer and very successful in "do-it-yourself" repair. John started working as the Tipton Electric superintendent on June 1, 1994, and retired Dec. 31, 2013. While here, he was instrumental in modernizing the electric operations for the city. He directed the construction of the new generation building and the addition of two new diesel engines. He was also instrumental in the Tipton substation conversion project that upgraded Tipton's power from 34 kV to 69 kV. He was a well respected leader in the Electric community and volunteered countless hours to the City of Tipton and its citizens. He will be missed. John is survived by his wife, Pat of Tipton; daughter, Angila (Dave) Bush of Woolstock, Iowa; sons, John (Melissa) Packwood of Louisville, Ky., Aaron Packwood of Thailand and Lucas Packwood of Utah; five grandchildren, Josh, Jackson, Jarrett, Dawson and Mackenzie; two great-grandchildren, Joel and Elayna; brother, Bill (Darlene) Packwood of Leavenworth, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Carol (Doug) Willey of Katy, Texas and Debbie (Wayne) Krug of Otho; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
