John R. Millis, 78, of
Cedar Rapids, died at his home Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. Memorial services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the
Cedar Memorial Park Funeral.
Survivors include two sons, Alec (Wendy) of Cedar Rapids and David
(Marie) of Greeley; two brothers, Paul (Linda) of Boone and Peter (Venita) of Cedar Rapids; and one sister, Mary Rees of Mesa, Ariz.
He is also survived by two grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Shawn; and a brother,
Lester.
John was born Jan. 23, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Horace and Genevieve Hughes Millis. He married Elizabeth J. Fymbo on June 9, 1956, in Iowa City.
Elizabeth passed away in 1976.
John was a purchasing agent for Klinger Paint Company for over 44 years, retiring in 2012.
John was a member of the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame. He was a referee for high school and college basketball and umpired softball and baseball. He enjoyed the Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Cubs.
John was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
