JOHN MENGE Alburnett John B. Menge, 77, of Alburnett, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Aug. 7, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, conducted by the Rev. Sam Dronebarger. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Alburnett. Military honors provided by Toddville American Legion Post 674. Survivors include his wife, Phylis; his children, Mike (Dedria) Menge, Angie (Jeff) Drymon and Julie (Steve) Volesky; grandchildren, Erin, Kay, Maddie and Kylie; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Caleb and Caitlynne; sister, Pat (Tom) Roach; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and grand-daughter, Martie Hodges. John was born Nov. 6, 1937, to A.W. and Marie (Gasser) Menge, in Wapello, Iowa. He married his wife, Phylis, on Nov. 6, 1965, in Rock Island. John was employed at Rockwell Collins for 33 years. He was a member of the Toddville American Legion Post 674 and the Iowa Firefighters Association. He attended Lafayette Christian Church and was in the United States Army for six years. John enjoyed woodworking, camping and riding 4-wheelers. He took great pride in attending his granddaughter's sporting events and military reunions. However, his greatest love of all was his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
