John Marugg, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Crestridge Care Center, Maquoketa, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Hopkinton Community Church where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is assisting the family.

Surviving is his wife, Nadine Marugg, Monticello; four sisters, Mary (Carl) Kleitsch, Monticello, Margaret Faust, Edgewood, Helen (David) Bader-Sackett, Anamosa and Charlotte (Dale) Lowery, Fostoria, Ohio; and four sisters-in-law, Darlene Marugg, Monticello, Irene Marugg, Carey, Ohio, Peggy Marugg and Marion Marugg, both of Franklin, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Richard, Robert, Russell, Fritz and James.
John Marugg was born Aug. 12, 1935, in Richland Township, Jones County, Iowa. He was the sixth child of 10 born to Fritz and Ethel Winch Marugg Sr. John attended the Monticello Community Schools. John worked at the Monticello Bowling Alley as a pin setter and later at Franklin Equipment.
John married Barbara Chaffee June 3, 1967, at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello. She preceded him in death on March 28, 1988.
John was employed by Farmers Mutual Creamery in Hopkinton and later at the Swiss Valley Cheese Plant for 24 years. He married Nadine Kerman on June 17, 1989, at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall. He retired from ATI in Delhi in 1993.
John was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. He never missed Sunday school if at all possible.
