John La Shorne
JOHN FREEMAN LA SHORNE
Northbrook, Ill.
John Freeman La Shorne of Northbrook, Ill., passed away on Jan. 4, 2018, from advanced kidney cancer surrounded by his loving children. He was born March 23, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Marion and Blanche La Shorne.
John was a veteran, having spent time in the army at the end of World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii and served as staff sergeant for his unit. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
John was a beloved husband and best friend to his wife of 64 years, Marian. They met by chance in Iowa City, Iowa. They married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and spent their early years there near Marian's parents. They had three children: Chris, Barbara and Julie. John's job at Square D Company (now Schneider Electric) relocated him to Lexington, Ky., and then to their corporate headquarters in Palatine, Ill., where he retired as corporate controller. John has resided in Northbrook for the past 50 years.
John and Marian were constant companions, entertaining and traveling with friends. They shared a love of dancing, golfing, bowling, cross-wording and raising their children. Some people eat to live, but John lived to eat. He could remember every good meal he ever had, including the restaurant name whether it was in the United States or abroad. The best food to him, however, was the gourmet cooking his best friend and wife, Marian, provided.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marian; parents, Marion and Blanche; and sisters, Mildred (James) Dougherty, Doris (Earl) Renee and Jeanne (Cliff) Kaufman. He is survived by his children, Chris (Ellen) La Shorne of La Crosse, Wis., Barbara La Shorne of Northbrook, Ill., and Julie Meyer of Poplar Grove, Ill.; grandchildren, Hayden (Guy) Rutter, Emily (Jason) Walz, Daniel, Ryan (Emily) McAllister, Nicholas, Benjamin and Alexander; and great-grandchildren, Avery, Finley, Desmond, Emmett, Hailey and Addison.
Visitation and funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd., Glenview, Ill., with the visitation at 11 a.m. and service to follow at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to the Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
