John D. Kuntz, 85, of rural Lisbon, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon following a brief battle with cancer. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Linn Grove Presbyterian Church, 2000 Linn Grove Rd., Mount Vernon. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Stewart-Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Inurnment: White Oak Cemetery at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; four children, Carol (Dave) Larson of Spirit Lake, Alan (Cindy) Kuntz of Lisbon, Linda (Fred) Luckritz of Richland, Mo., and Sharon (Tim) Glenn of Kennett Square, Pa.; six grandchildren, Krista and Andrew Larson, Tim (Chelsea) and Laurie Luckritz, Katie and Sean Glenn; and two great-grandchildren, Erik and Marcus Luckritz.
John Dillingham Kuntz was born April 21, 1931, in Martelle to Fred and Mildred (Dillingham) Kuntz. He graduated from Martelle High School in 1948. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Anne Marie Clark on June 9, 1956, in Winter Harbor, Maine. They returned to Iowa and John completed his degree at Iowa State University in 1957. At that time, they moved to rural Lisbon, where John and Anne had continued to farm.
John was an active volunteer, serving multiple roles at Linn Grove Presbyterian Church, with Jones County 4-H, and as a member of the Jones County Farm Bureau board for a period of years.
He enjoyed travel with his wife and time with the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John was an avid Cubs fan and followed Iowa State sports as well.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
