John Charles Kosman, 51, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at his home. His graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at Green Center Cemetery in rural Morley. There will be a luncheon directly following the graveside service at the Olin American Legion. Please join our families in a Celebration of John's Life. John was born Sept. 13, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Pat (Kosman) Tallman and Jack Kosman. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1985. He participated in many sports and particularly loved football. John worked as a carpenter for Local 308 for many years and was employed by Appleby and Horn. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. John loved the outdoors. He was a passionate fisherman and hunter. Most of all, he loved spending tie with his family, especially his two daughters, Kelsey and Josey.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Alicia (Mendenhall) Kosman; his children, Kelsey and Josey Kosman of Mount Vernon; a stepson, Devin Bruns of Cedar Rapids; his parents, Patricia (Ron) Tallman of Wyoming, Joseph "Jack" (Debbie Main) Kosman of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Jeanette (Troy) Espe of Cedar Rapids; four brothers, Matt Kosman of Ruceau, Minn., Kyle (Julie) Kosman of Johnston, Keith (Deb) Tallman of Anamosa and Aaron (Terri) Tallman of Monticello; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Irene O'Brien; paternal grandparents, Joe and Hester Kosman, all of Ottumwa; a niece, Madison Tallman (Aaron); and a nephew, Max Espe (Jeanette).
