John Stephen Klima, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospice. A private interment will be held at Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Helen G. Nassif YMCA, Cedar Rapids.
Steve was born July 22, 1944, the son of Rudy and Hazel Dawn Hobbs Klima. He worked nearly 30 years at Quaker Oats. He served in the U.S. Army during the 1960s. Among his interests were daily visits to the YMCA, reading books, being and avid philanthropist, a strong NRA member, riding in Century cabs and eating at Emil's Deli and Deb's Ice Cream.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; a uncle, John D. Hobbs; and an aunt, Lavonia Clark Hobbs of Taos, N.M.
He is survived by his cousin, Erica D. Hobbs of Taos, N.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the YMCA, the NRA or to the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation.
