John Joseph Kinney, 57, passed away on Jan. 17, 2023, after a sudden illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, with a time of remembrance and sharing of memories to begin at 5:30 p.m. A brunch will follow the funeral Mass at
the church before burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mainstream Living, 2012 East 13th St., Ames, IA 50010 for use by the Dayhab program, where John was a longtime participant.
John is survived by his siblings, Ellen (Tom) Roan, Mary Catherine (Dick) Craig, Marguerite (Tom) Hunzinger, Beth Ann Montgomery, Fran (Ray) Dolezal, Mark (Lynne) Kinney and William (Dena) Kinney; and nieces and nephews, Katy (Rich) Cohen, Martha Lynn (Lee) Babcock, Michael (Amber) Roan, Daniel (Tina) Craig, Matthew (Kristin Craig), Travis (Autumn) Craig, Jason (Sarah) Hunzinger, Erika Hunzinger, Chad (Katie) Montgomery, David (Lori) Montgomery, Jessica Kinney, Sarah (Matt) Schroth, Steve (Kelly) Kinney, James Kinney, Rachael Dolezal, Meredith Swayzer, Noah Dolezal, Molloy Dolezal, Allison Kinney and Emily Kinney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ellen Kinney; brother, Eddie John Kinney and his wife, Connie; and brother-in-law, James Michael “Buddah” Montgomery.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Ben and the staff at John’s home in Ames, and the Mainstream staff at the Dayhab facility. Their kind care was and always will be appreciated.
