Palo
John Jerry Pavek, 82, of Palo, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
Jerry was born March 1, 1935, in rural Palo. He was married to his sweetheart, Evelyn Rose Barnard, on Oct. 20, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. The two of them raised their three children, Gary, Teresa and Jeff, on the family farm just south of Palo.
Jerry worked at Wilson Foods, where he retired after 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in Korea in 1956. Jerry was always a hardworking man, continuing until the end to farm and run a wildlife feed corn business.
Anyone who knew Jerry knew he loved to laugh and tell jokes. He was never short on stories and always had a good one for you. Jerry brought much joy to many people's lives and will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Teresa Walker, of Cedar Rapids; son, Jeff Pavek (Lori VanDooren-Long) of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Jub Pavek of Cedar Rapids; six very special grandchildren, Jennie, Katie, Caleb, Kaylee, Kassidy and Johnnie; sister, Joy Ann Baldwin of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Chuck Pavek of Cedar Rapids. He also was blessed by his large extended family and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, in May of 1993; son, John Gary; brother, Ike; and sister, Marie.
