Funeral service for John C. (Jack) Pettee, 76, of Marion, formerly of Princeton, Ill., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec 23, at Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton. The Rev. Laura Root-Tanner will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery on Dec 23. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. John C. (Jack) Pettee passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.
He was born March 5, 1941, in Princeton, Ill., to Harold A. and Jessica G. (Williams) Pettee. He married Marilyn Kay Skow on Jan. 17, 2009, in Brownsville, Texas. He graduated from PHS with the class of 1960.
Jack served nine years in the U.S. Army as an intelligence analyst with the G3 section of the 2nd Infantry Division, the G2 section of the 25th Infantry Division (in Hawaii and Vietnam) and the Defense Intelligence Agency. He attained the rank of SFC and was awarded the following awards and decorations: the Bronze Star Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal, VN CAP AINE and the VN Service Medal.
After the service, Jack served as a wireman apprenticeship at J&L Steel. Upon completion of that, he went to work as a wireman and eventually a wireman foreman at Puget Sound Power and light.
He belonged to the National Model Railroad Association and was active in all three levels of that organization, the LS&BC Model Railroad Club, a member of the American Legion and was also a member of the Princeton City Council. Jack was an avid reader and enjoyed model railroading and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Julie G. Bates and Jill A. Kowalczyk; two nephews, Matt and Mike Pettee; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three stepsons, Ron, John and David Skow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William (Bill) Pettee; and one nephew, Mark Pettee.
