John "Jack" Dean Martin, 84, of Atkins, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon following a short illness. Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton by the Rev. Ardel Barta. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Jack is survived by his children, Dan Martin of Cedar Rapids, Doug (Doreen) Martin of Atkins, Deby (James) Emanuel of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and David (Cindy) Martin of Vinton; five grandchildren, Larry, Amanda, Hunter, Caitlyn and Morgan; eight brothers and sisters-in-law; and 34 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; his brother, Robert; and sister-in-law, Peggy.
Jack was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Manchester, to Roy Dean and Jean Blair Martin. He grew up in Cedar Rapids, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1952. Jack married Theresa Marie Wiskus on Oct. 25, 1958, in Dedham. Theresa passed away in June 2010, after 51 years of marriage. Jack worked over 20 years for Dale Lee Distributing and Rapids Inc., retiring in 1993.
Jack loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, and the winters he and Theresa spent in South Padre Island, Texas. Jack was very devoted to his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thompson and his staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Molly and the staff of Essence of Life Hospice, and the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon for their care and compassion.
