John "Jack" L. Kahler Jr., 86, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Mercy Hospice surrounded by his loving family and friends.
John was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Oxford, Iowa, the son of John and Edna (Roberts) Kahler Sr. Jack attended Oxford High School and entered the Navy on June 15, 1950. He spent four years serving on the USS PCEC 866 during the Korean War. Once back from the war, he spent 42 years at Amana Refrigeration, working as a machine tool and dye foreman. He married Joan F. "Jo" Wagner, his wife of 62 years, on Oct. 8, 1956, in Canton, Mo. They had seven children. Deb, Juli, Mick, Steve, Lori, Lisa and Angie.
Jack spent many years helping with the Oxford Little League, Oxford City Council, Oxford Fire Department and was a lifetime member of the Oxford American Legion.
After retiring, Jack spent his time helping his family, and doing beautiful woodwork, which he gave away to family and friends.
His family includes his wife, Joan "Jo;" children, Deb (Kelly) Kahler, Juli Kahler, Mick (Tammy) Kahler, Steve (Gary Trisler) Kahler and Angie (Wayne) Aubrecht; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and half sisters, Naomi (Richard) Nearad and Arlene (John) Gerard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; little sister, Laura; stepmother, Bernice Kahler; half sisters, Janet Prymek and Sylvia Adams; and twin daughters, Lisa Lyn and Lori Jen.
A time of visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin, where a memorial service will begin at 6 p.m.
