John "Jack" L. Ballou, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites. Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids, is assisting with John's arrangements.
John "Jack" was born April 15, 1947, in Davenport, the son of Merlyn and Florence (Hastings) Ballou. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was very proud of his service. Jack worked as a cab driver for many years and also was a bartender at Dancer's Ranch and Playtime Tap, where he met many friends.
John "Jack" is survived by his brother, Art Ballou of Galveston, Texas; as well as his nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jennifer Ballou; and a good friend, Poet.
