John Hart, 85, of Anamosa, died Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the Hiawatha Care Center following an extended illness.
Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon, January 6, 2024, from 1:00 until 3:00 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviving are his 4 children, Randy (Angela Daywitt) Hart, Sandy Hart, Kevin (Judy McLain) Hart, all of Cedar Rapids, Greg (Paula) Hart, Anamosa, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his siblings, David (Marilyn) Hart, Mary (Larry Pernicka) Taylor, Kim (Teresa) Hart, Billy Hart, a sister-in-law, Lois Hart, and his aunt, Lois Holland. He was preceded by his parents, his wife Diane, his brother, Edwin Hart, and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hart.
John Charles Hart was born October 3, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Newlin Hart. John was the valedictorian of his class of 1956 at Viola High School. He then started his life’s occupation working on the railroad. He started with the Milwaukee Railroad and finished his career at the Crandic Railroad. John married Joyce Marie Harms in 1958, they later divorced.
John married Karen Diane Hilbert in 2004, they had been a couple since 1989. Diane and John had been together since 1989. The couple took many wonderful trips together, going to Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. In 2009 they started wintering in McAllen, Texas until her death in 2017.
His hobbies and passions were playing golf and walking his dogs, Charlie and Charlie Pup. The family extends its sincerest appreciation to the staff of Boyson Heights Senior Living and Hiawatha Care Center facilities as well as Hospice Care Initiative for their compassionate care in John’s final days.
