John Michael Hahesy, 75, of Ely, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Celebration of Life services for John will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be in Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
John was born May 27, 1940, in Manchester, the son of John "Jack" and
Kathryn (Robinson) Hahesy. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1958. John was united in marriage to Lynda Gearhart on Jan. 20, 1962.
He worked at Henderson Manufacturing in Manchester, Allis-Chalmers, FMC Linkbelt Speeder and at Goss Manufacturing until his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting, raising his cows, socializing with his friends, watching his children and grandchildren's sporting activities, and most of all, the time spent with his family.
John is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Lynda; his children, Mike (Paige) Hahesy of Erie, Pa., and Michelle (Steve) Slezak, Melinda (Mark) Behounek and Marty Hahesy, all of Ely; nine grandchildren, Maddie, Haley and Hunter Hahesy, Ben and Ryan Slezak, Mike and Molly Behounek, Gage and Grant Hahesy; his sister, Bev (Dave) Hannon of Marion; his brother, Bill (Dawn) Hahesy of Milwaukee, Wis.; as well as his nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joanne, in infancy; and his mother- and father-in-law, Tanny and Jim Gearhart.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Hospice of Mercy for their loving care for John and his family.
