John H. "Jack" Schweiter, 90 years old, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
He was born on May 16, 1928, in Caulder, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Bert Samuel and Veronica E. (Reles) Schweitzer. In 1936, he moved with his family to the United States. He graduated from high school in Quasqueton, Iowa, with the Class of 1947. In 1951, he and the former Mary Ann White were married at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1989. On Aug. 17, 1990, he and the former Maxine Charlotte Stanford were married in Osage Beach, Mo. She preceded him in death in 2018. For 30 years, Mr. Schweitzer was a self-employed beverage distributor. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Mr. Schweitzer is survived by one daughter, Beverly (Richard) Schindler of Love's Park, Ill.; two sons, Steve (Kimberly) Schweitzer of Rockford, and David (Judy) Schweitzer of Machesney Park, Ill.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one stepdaughter, Jacqueline Marlatt of Gravois Mills, Mo.; two stepsons, Michael Tuttle of Gravois Mills and Richard Tuttle of Salinas, Calif.; and three step-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with the Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation for an hour before services. Online condolences may be left at www.white-mthope.com.
