JOHN FINN JR. Cedar Rapids John "Jack" Joseph Finn Jr. passed away Sept. 15, 2014, at the age of 86, after an extended illness in Batavia, Ill. Jack will be laid to rest Sept. 22 after a private service at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia and burial in DeWitt, Iowa. A Mass Intention will be 4:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in DeWitt. Jack was born May 26, 1928, in Freeport, Ill., to John Joseph and Rose Josephine Finn. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Pollock on May 6, 1950. While raising their family in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jack was employed at Rockwell Collins as an avionics engineer. Upon retirement they moved to Arizona, where they shared their love for traveling that included adventures to Ireland, Germany, Spain and within the United States. They returned to DeWitt, Iowa, in 2005 and moved to Batavia, Ill., in 2013. A passion for building and flying radio control airplanes began at age 12 and continued throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his children, Kevin Finn (Dian), Eden Prairie, Minn., Kathleen "Casey" Clabby (Mike), St. Charles, Ill., Kelly Shadle (Joe), DeWitt, John Finn (Kristen), Urbandale, and Patrick Finn (Lisa), Marion; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Craig, who died shortly after birth; and three sisters, Kathleen Byers, Rosemary Motsinger and Marjorie Fuller. Jack was a devoted and loving husband and father. His strong Catholic faith guided him throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
