John Franklin Zimmer, 59, a resident of Beaverton, Ore., died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, at his home in Beaverton.

Private cremation rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove, Ore.

John Franklin Zimmer was born July 16, 1961, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Ralph P. Zimmer and Karen Marie Line (Buchanan). He graduated from Hillsboro High School. He later attended Portland Community College, majoring in computer science.

John worked as a software tester at Intel for many years.

Among his special interests, he enjoyed music in which he recently discovered St. Hildegard of Bingen, who is the Patron Saint of musicians and writers. He also enjoyed movies, and traveling with friends.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Marie Line (Buchanan); his maternal grandparents, Lester and Gladys (Crow) Buchanan; uncles, Ronald Buchanan and Duane Buchanan of Tucson, Ariz.; and aunt, Sandra Skiffington of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He is survived by his sisters, Rebecca Line and Cynthia Line of Marion, Iowa; and his aunts, Katherine Cousino of Morris, Ill., and Mary Lou (Buchanan) Atwood of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

All are welcome in person and on livestream to celebrate John's life. Funeral liturgy outside of Mass is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 20. Located at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1790 14th St., Marion, IA 52302. John's service will also be livestreamed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, YouTube channel.

John will be laid to rest in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
