JOHN EDWARD HOBEL SR.
Cedar Rapids
John E. Hobel Sr., 99, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018. Per John's wishes, there will be no services at this time. Burial will take place at Wilcox Cemetery in Viola, Iowa.
Survivors include his son. Frank, of Clearwater, Fla.
John was preceded in death by Wilma, his loving wife; brothers, Richard, William, Lee and Emil Jr.; and sons, John Jr. and Dennis.
John was born April 2, 1918, to Emil S. Hobel and Lizzie Hubler in Cedar Rapids. He married Wilma L. Gage on Feb. 8, 1942. He and Wilma had three sons, John Jr., Dennis and Frank. John enjoyed life, with a 41-year career at Collins Radio as a superintendent, and a 27-yearlong successful Midget and Sprint car racing campaign. John was a wonderful father and enjoyed 68 very happily married years with Wilma, the love of his life.
