John "Jack" Dwyer, 99, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Emeritus at Silver Pines Assisted Living. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a vigil service beginning at 4 p.m., at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church, with the Rev. John R. Flaherty presiding. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, with mil-itary honors.
John Francis Dwyer was born Nov. 2, 1914, to Dennis and Lucy Woods Dwyer in Cedar Rapids. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Anna "Ann" Blazek on April 2, 1935, in Cedar Rapids. Jack worked at Penick and Ford for 37 years doing electrical work.
Jack was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church and Young at Heart.
He will be remembered for his words of wisdom: "Don't give up. God is always with us."
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 79 years, Ann; children, Corrine Ehlers of Lincoln, Calif., and Gary (Relda) Dwyer and Tom Dwyer (special friend Debbie), both of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and extended family members.
The family would like to thank all the residents and staff from the Emeritus at Silver Pines Assisted Living for their love and support as well as the Hospice of Mercy staff for the tender care given to Jack.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Emeritus at Silver Pines Assisted Living or Hospice of Mercy.
