John Donald Waldrep, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, of natural causes. Services: 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Teahen Funeral Home by Penny Ackerman. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John is survived by his children, Kim (Leo) LeClere of Bernard, Iowa, Karen (Jeff) Miller of Marion, Tom (Wendy Holmes) Waldrep of Cedar
Rapids and Kelly Waldrep of Marion; grandchildren, Jason and Jeff, Charles and Jessica, Stormy and Cameron, and Heather and Jared; nine great-grandchildren; and many good friends.
John was born July 31, 1935, in Hamilton, Texas, the son of Sullivan and Minnie (Wright) Waldrep. He attended school in Texas before enlisting in the U.S. Army. In 1956, he married Shirley Waldrep in Cedar Rapids; they later divorced but remained close friends. John worked for the Union Pipe Fitters Local 125 retiring in June 1995. John enjoyed building street rods, woodworking and attending drag races.
