John R. Crawford, 70, of rural Independence, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at his home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 6, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Winthrop. Burial: St. Mary of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Eagle Center. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5, and until 10 a.m. Friday at Fawcett Funeral Home, Winthrop, where a rosary will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; his two daughters, Carmen (Mike) Whitney of Center Point and Renee (Joel) Nelson of Carroll; his four grandchildren, Macintyre John Whitney, Lauren Catherine Whitney, Emma Renee Nelson and Cael Crawford Nelson; his 10 brothers, Dan (Ruth), Ron (Dianne) and Larry (Sarah), all of Independence, Russell of Exira, Pete (Jolene) of Red Oak, Kenny (Lila) of Vail, Terry (Connie) of Denison, Mike (Page) and Steve (Audrey), both of Nevada, Iowa, and Dennis (Renny) of Grinnell; five sisters, Mary (Mario) Campean of San Antonio, Texas, Jane (Bill) Falkers of Genoa, Wis., Rose (Jeff) Grover and Margaret (Lyle) Hosch, both of Independence, and Patricia (Mike) Buscher of Mundelein, Ill.; and his best friend, Don Ryan.
