John Charles Clark, 72, of Coralville, died suddenly Friday, March 27, 2015, at his home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with Father John Spiegel officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. A prayer vigil service will be held at 5 p.m., followed by visitation with family from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
John was born July 24, 1942, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Alice Satter Clark. He graduated from Sloan High School in Sloan, Iowa, in 1960. He attended and graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City and Mercy School of Anesthesia in Oshkosh, Wis. He married Diane Johnson on June 20, 1964, in Salix, Iowa. John served in the U.S. Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and at the 7th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in the Republic of Vietnam. He was proud of his time served and later retired from the U.S. Army Reserves.
John worked as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City for more than 20 years.
He was a member of the Iowa City American Legion Post 17, Knights of Columbus Council 842 and Bishop Cosgrove Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
John enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeye football team and making sure his prized cars were in pristine condition. His greatest love was his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, and attending all their activities.
Survivors include his loving wife, Diane; and their children, Stacia (Randy) Thompson of Sioux City, Joseph (Linda) Clark of Atkins and Jennifer Clark of Iowa City; grandchildren, Calvin, Madeline, Ethan, Libby and James; brother-in-law, Terry (Rose) Johnson of Sloan; and sister-in-law, Colleen (Ken) Johnson of Sioux City.
John was preceded by his parents and siblings, Vincent Clark, Cleo Clark and Madeline Longval Leach.
