JOHN CHEESEMAN
Solon
John Charles Cheeseman. 69, of Solon, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, in his home surrounded by his wife and daughters. Military rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the Solon Veteran Memorial Rock, followed by a celebration of life gathering at the Solon American Legion on Sunday, April 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. Brosh Chapel in Solon is assisting the family.
John was born in Elkader on Sept. 17, 1947. He graduated from Elkader Central in 1965. John worked at Rockwell Collins until he was drafted into the Army in November 1966 and served until 1968, when he was honorably discharged. He worked at UPS for over 20 years. John drove a tanker truck in Azerbaijan, Iraq, for five years. He returned home and drove a semi as an independent operator.
John enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hunting and spending time with his family. He enjoyed life and had a lot of fun over the years. He cherished his friends.
John is survived by his wife, Sevil Cheeseman; daughters, Stephanie Nelson (Todd), Kelly Shaffer, Aimee Flynn and Elly Cheeseman; brothers, Bill and Bob Cheeseman; and grandchildren, Tyler Shaffer, Trevor Nelson, Rachael Nelson, Jax Flynn, Braeden Flynn and Kylee Flynn.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Cheeseman; father, Byron Cheeseman; grandparents; and his brother, Tom Cheeseman.
