John F. Cannon, 75, of Rowley, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
John was born June 16, 1939, near Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Francis W. and Lois M. (Aason) Cannon. He graduated from Quasqueton Consolidated High School in Quasqueton and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette. On Feb. 15, 1959, he married Betty L. Johnston in Quasqueton. The couple made their home in the Quasqueton area while John worked as a carpenter with Luther Morton Construction and Paul T. Quint Construc-tion, as well as hand-lettered signage. In 1961, he went to work for Kaesser Implement near Rowley. In 1973, he purchased the John Deere dealership from Kaesser; it became Cannon Equipment Corp. until he sold the business and retired in 1997.
He served on the Buchanan Health Trust board and Heartland Acres board of directors. He was a member of the Rowley Masonic Lodge.
John enjoyed doing yard work, woodworking, collecting tractors (both toy and real) and going on tractor rides. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cannon, Rowley; two sons, Jeff (Jenny) Cannon, Marion, and Craig (Fayla) Cannon, Rowley; five grandchildren, Jason, Katie, Brittany, Max and Scott; and two sisters, Wanda Kress, Winthrop, and Susan Linse, Robins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with the Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Attendees are invited to a lunch following the services. Private burial services will be at Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, where a Masonic memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday.
