JOHN "JOHNNY" BUSCHER

John "Johnny" Buscher, 82, of Cedar Rapids, crossed over at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, in Weslaco, Texas, surrounded by his children and partner Marcia. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Johnny was born in Dundee, Iowa, on Feb. 2, 1934, the first child of John Peter and Pearl (Besler) Buscher. He graduated from high school in Lamont in 1952 and then served four years in the Navy during the Korean War.
He married Ercyle Jean McQueen on Feb. 16, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed by Quaker Oats for 44 years and played a leadership role in RWDSU Local 110. As a proud, active veteran Johnny participated in the Honor Flight to D.C., sponsored by Quaker Oats, in 2014.
Johnny was an avid outdoorsman who shared his love of camping, hunting and fishing with family and friends. Johnny and Marcia enjoyed spending the winters in Donna, Texas, with their many friends.
Johnny is survived by his partner, Marcia Humphrey; sons, Jeff (Kayle) Buscher of Liberty, Mo., and Craig (Peg) Buscher of Bondurant; daughter, Marcey (Jerry) Northrup of Cedar Rapids; brother, Galen (Brenda) Buscher of Swisher; sisters, Judith (Wayne) Kinney and Joyce (Tony) Burg, both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Ercyle; son, Scott; brother, Marvin; father, John; and mother, Pearl.
A celebration of life event will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with a reception to follow the service at the Moose Lodge on West Post Road at 3 p.m.
Those who knew Johnny will remember his strong opinions, unreserved truth-telling and willingness to help his neighbor.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
