John Bryant Abodeely, 64, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Palisades-Kepler State Park Lodge, 700 Kepler Drive, Mt. Vernon, ia 52314. Casual dress is encouraged. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service assisted the family.
John was born May 25, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Kenneth and Joyce (Harris) Abodeely. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1976. John was a welding supervisor who worked for CEI Equipment and KT Pacer for 25 years.
John was a lifelong outdoorsman who loved to go deer and pheasant hunting, fishing and mushrooming. He was a beautiful artist skilled in textured oil paintings and had a love of rock and roll music. Nobody had a kinder heart than John. His legacy of compassion and kindness lives on as John gifted his eyes to two individuals through the Iowa Donor Network.
Survivors include his sons, Aaron Abodeely of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Josh Abodeely of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; mother, Joyce Abodeely of Marion, Iowa; siblings, Mark (Kay) Abodeely of Rowley, Iowa, and Paul (Kris) Abodeely of Lisbon, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Alex Abodeely, Sydney Abodeely, Max Abodeely, Christian Abodeely, Ryan Abodeely and Jared Abodeely; along with 11 great- and 1 great-great-nieces and nephews; his best friends, Kevin, Macel and Abigail Ralston of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and his former wife, Tamra (Brian) Dee of Hot Springs, S.D., and her mother, Joanna Lizbeth of Marion, Iowa.
John was preceded in death by his father and his great-niece.
