John C. Brady, 77, of Keystone, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.
John Charles Brady was born April 1, 1940, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Eldon and Carrie (Akers) Brady. He graduated from Grand Junction Consolidated Schools and then attended Buena Vista College. On Oct. 28, 1961, he married Patricia Kirby in Grand Junction, Iowa. John worked at Keystone Farmers Coop Telephone Co. for over 40 years, and was a member of the Keystone Volunteer Fire Department, where he had previously served as fire chief. He also was a member of the Keystone Turners, Alcoholics Anonymous-Cedar Rapids District 8 and Keystone AA, C&NW Railroad Society and American Radio Relay League. He enjoyed model railroading, collecting telephone antiques and insulators and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patricia; his children, John (Lisa Wagner) Brady of Cedar Rapids, Joyce (Marty Canova) Brady of Beaverdale, Iowa, and Jana Dewhurst of Waukee, Iowa; five grandchildren, John Hansard, Keri Mohr, Kiley, Nathan and Benjamin Dewhurst; and two great-granddaughters, Kenley and Azalea Mohr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judith Ann Brady; and sister, Sharon Looschen.
A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post 107, 105 Main St., Keystone, IA 52249.
